Paula Rodríguez-Puente obtains a position at the University of Cantabria

Paula Rodríguez-Puente, a member of the VLCG team, has just obtained a position as Lecturer (‘Ayudante’) at the Department of Philology of the University of Cantabria.

Three new research grants awarded to the ELC teams

The Autonomous Government of Galicia (Directorate General for Scientific and Technological Promotion) has awarded three new research grants (€70.000 each) to the VLCG (grant no. CN2012/012), LVTC  (grant no. CN2012/294) and SPERTUS  (grant no. CN2012/081) teams.

Carlos Prado-Alonso receives the ESSE Book Award 2012

Carlos Prado-Alonso’s research monograph Full-verb inversion in written and spoken English (Bern: Peter Lang, 2011) has received  the ESSE Book Award 2012 for Junior Scholars in the category ‘English Language and Linguistics’. The winners of these prestigious awards were publicly announced at the General Meeting of ESSE, held in Istanbul the first week of September during the 11th ESSE Conference.

Two new research projects awarded to ELC members

Ignacio Palacios and Carlos Acuña-Fariña have received funding from the Spanish Ministry for Economy and Competitiveness to carry out the research projects detailed below:

  • Ignacio Palacios and team: “El inglés hablado contemporáneo: el componente interpersonal en contextos informales y académicos” (grant FFI2012-31450; 01/01/ 2013-31/12/2015).
  • Carlos Acuña-Fariña and team: “El procesamiento sintáctico visto desde la interferencia semántica” (grant PSI2012-32834; 01/01/ 2013-31/12/2015).

Carlos Prado-Alonso obtains a position at the University of Valencia

Carlos Prado-Alonso, a member of the VLCG team, has just obtained a position as ‘Ayudante Doctor’ at the Department of English and German of the University of Valencia.

News about the ICAME34 Conference at Santiago de Compostela

The 34th International Conference of the International Computer Archive of Modern and Medieval English (ICAME) will be held at the University of Santiago de Compostela in May 2013. Jenny Cheshire (Queen Mary University of London), Holger Diessel (Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena), Marianne Hundt (University of Zurich) and Ken Hyland (Hong Kong) have agreed to give plenary presentations.

This meeting is organised by the VLCG and SPERTUS teams, in cooperation with ELC.  The organising committee is chaired by María José López-Couso.

Luis Jiménez and Javier Pérez Guerra have passed the ‘habilitation’ exam

Our colleagues Luis Jiménez (PCC team) and Javier Pérez Guerra (LVTC team) have passed the ‘habilitation’ exam qualifying them for promotion to chairs in Basic and Social Psychology, and English Linguistics respectively. Congratulations!

Isabel Fraga has been elected to the Executive Board of SEPEX

At the 2012 BAPS-SEPEX Meeting held on 10-11 May at the University of Liège, Isabel Fraga was elected to the Executive Board of SEPEX (Spanish Association for Experimental Psychology).
