Carlos Prado-Alonso has been appointed panel convenor by AELINCO

At the 8th International Conference of the Spanish Association for Corpus Linguistics (AELINCO), held at the University of Málaga on 2-4 March 2016, Carlos Prado-Alonso was appointed scientific convenor of the panel “Corpus-based studies of variation and linguistic change”, for a three-year term. Carlos, a member of the VLCG team now based at the University of Oviedo, succeeds María José López-Couso.

Paula Rodríguez-Abruñeiras obtains a position at the University of Valencia

Paula Rodríguez-Abruñeiras, a member of the VLCG team, has just obtained a position as ‘Ayudante Doctor’ at the Department of English and German at the University of Valencia.

Rosalía Rodríguez-Vázquez has passed the ‘habilitation’ exam

It was recently announced that our colleague Rosalía Rodríguez-Vázquez, a member of the LVTC team,  has brilliantly passed the habilitation exam qualifying her for promotion to a position as Associate Professor  (‘Profesor Titular de Universidad’) of English Language and Linguistics.

Two new postgraduate grants awarded to junior ELC members

It was announced yesterday that Laura García-Castro (LVTC team) and Iván Tamaredo (VLCG team) have obtained competitive four-year FPI grants from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. Laura’s PhD advisors are Elena Seoane and Cristina Suárez (UIB); Iván’s PhD advisors are Teresa Fanego and J. Carlos Acuña-Fariña.

Yolanda Fernandez-Pena receives the Best Presentation Award AEDEAN 2015

At the 39th AEDEAN International Conference held on 11-13 November 2015 at the University of Deusto (Spain), Yolanda Fernandez-Pena, a member of the LVCT team,  received the prestigious Catalina Montes Award to the best presentation by a PhD student, in the fields of theoretical and applied linguistics.

Nuria Yáñez-Bouza has passed the ‘habilitation’ exam

It was recently announced that our colleague Nuria Yáñez-Bouza, a member of the LVTC team and currently Senior Research Fellow ‘Ramón y Cajal’ at the University of Vigo,  has brilliantly passed the habilitation exam (‘acreditación’) qualifying her for promotion to a position as Associate Professor of English Language and Linguistics. Congratulations, Nuria!

Zeltia Blanco-Suárez obtains a position at the University of Cantabria

Zeltia Blanco-Suárez, a member of the VLCG team, has just obtained a position as Lecturer (‘Ayudante’) at the University of Cantabria.

Two new research grants awarded to ELC teams

30 September 2015: two new research grants from the Regional Government of Galicia (Directorate General for Scientific and Technological Promotion) were awarded today to ELC members, as follows:

— Grant no. GPC2015/004 (€70.000, for the period 2015-2017), to the SPERTUS team, led by Ignacio Palacios.

— Grant no. GRC2015/006 (€198.000, for the period 2015-2018), to the PCC team, led by our colleague at the Faculty of Psychology Isabel Fraga.

Jorge Luis Bueno has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of SELIM

At the 27th International Conference of the Spanish Society for Medieval English Language and Literature, hosted by the University of Granada on 17-19 September 2015, it was announced that Jorge Luis Bueno-Alonso, founding member of the group LVTC, will be the new editor of SELIM, the official journal of the Society. He succeeds Santiago González Fernández-Corugedo, Professor of English Philology at the University of Oviedo, and Mercedes Salvador-Bello, Associate Professor of English Medieval Studies at the University of Seville. SELIM‘s  first volume was published in 1991.

A new FPU postgraduate grant awarded to a junior ELC member

Noelia Castro-Chao, a member of the VLCG team, has obtained a four-year postgraduate grant (ref. FPU 2014/03208) from the Spanish Ministry of Education, to prepare a PhD on the development of English impersonal constructions from a Construction Grammar perspective. Noelia’s PhD advisor is Teresa Fanego
