10-13 September 2008: The SPERTUS research group (member of the English Linguistcs Circle) organized the First International Conference on English Language Teaching and Learning (ICELTL1). The distinguished plenary speakers were David Crystal, Amos Paran, Eddie Williams, Jeremy Harmer and José Manuel Vez Jeremías. The conference was held at the University of Santiago de Compostela.

10-11 May 2008: our postgraduate students organized the First ELC International Postgraduate Conference on English Linguistics (ELC1). Ingo Plag (University of Siegen), Geoffrey K. Pullum (University of Edinburgh) and Antonella Sorace (University of Edinburgh) participated as plenary speakers. Pictures

Martiña Piñeiro de la Torre (University of Santiago de Compostela) and Beatriz Tizón Couto (University of Vigo) talked about “The use of phrasal and phrasal prepositional verbs by Spanish learners of English” and “Estrategias de complementación en un corpus oral de aprendizaje”, respectively.

18 July 2007: 3rd ELC Research Seminar at the Faculty of Philology (University of Santiago de Compostela). Lidia Gómez-García and Carlos Prado-Alonso (University of Santiago de Compostela) presented their ongoing research on cleft sentences in Modern English and on the pragmatic funtion of full inversion in English press reportage, respectively.

30 May 2007: 2nd ELC Research Seminar at the Faculty of Philology and Translation (University of Vigo). Iria Pastor-Gómez (University of Santiago de Compostela) and Nuria Yáñez Bouza (University of Vigo and University of Manchester) presented their ongoing research on, respectively, nominal premodifiers in English Noun Phrase structure and preposition stranding in the social history of English from 1500 to 1900.
