The English Linguistics Circle (ELC) is a research network established in December 2006 under the coordination of Professor Teresa Fanego. It comprises five research teams based at the Universities of Santiago de Compostela and Vigo, in Galicia, Northwestern Spain:

Language Variation and Textual Categorisation (LVTC), Faculty of Philology and Translation, University of Vigo. Director: Javier Pérez-Guerra

Methods and Materials for the Teaching and Acquisition of Foreign Languages (MMTAFL), Faculty of Philology and Translation, University of Vigo. Director: Rosa Alonso

ELC is designed to encourage collaborative and innovative approaches to research among its partners. All of them share an empirical, cognitive-functional outlook on the study of language and communication, with work on fields as diverse as grammar and morphosyntactic variation, language change and historical linguistics, discourse analysis and pragmatics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics,   speech and language disorders, contrastive and corpus linguistics, and linguistics applied to the teaching and acquisition of first and second languages.

ELC is generously supported by the European Regional Development Fund and the Autonomous Government of Galicia (Directorate General for Scientific and Technological Promotion) under the following research grants:
